Non-Operative Care
Fracture Evaluation and Management
Many fractures or injuries do not require surgical intervention. In those instances, let our specialized providers assist with interpreting x-ray studies to confirm proper healing, and follow along until you are able to resume full activities. Providers at Cedar Valley Orthopedic Surgery will work together with you to determine which fractures heal best with surgery and which fractures heal well without surgery.
Casting and Splinting
For many injuries, including fractures, tendon injuries, or other orthopedic injuries of the hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet require casting and or splinting that will be necessary for the healing of your injury. Our cast technicians and providers are specially trained to provide expert immobilization skills to best treat your injury.
Steroid Injections
Steroid injections can be used for a variety of reasons including arthritis of most joints, tendonitis of some joints, trigger finger, and carpal tunnel, just to name a few. All the providers at Cedar Valley Orthopedic Surgery are trained to evaluate and provide therapeutic cortisone injections for appropriate indications. Please note that some injections may be performed at an alternate location with x-ray guidance when injecting deeper difficult joints, such as the hip joint. No need to be concerned, our appointment schedulers will help you get scheduled at the appropriate location if this affects you.
Viscosupplementation Injections
A Hyaluronic Acid, or “lubricant” injections are another great non-operative option for those with degenerative arthritis. Hyaluronic acid is a natural derivative of joint fluid that helps re-inject a thick viscous fluid that can help lubricate and cushion the joint. The benefit of these injections is that they can last up to 6 months. Your insurance carrier often dictates who can receive these products. Our insurance specialists are trained to obtain prior authorization and work out the details with your insurance company. Typically, these treatments are widely covered for knees only at this time. Some other indications may be possible and should be discussed with your provider.
Evaluation and Treatment Planning for Non-surgical Needs
Even though you are visiting a surgeon’s office, your situation may not require surgery. Let our experts work with you to discuss your specific goals and the expected recovery timeline. Cedar Valley Orthopedic Surgery understands that getting you back to your best health is important to you and will work with you to meet those goals.
Pre-surgical Physicals (for those that meet criteria)
Our nurse practitioners can occasionally perform history and physicals for patients needing to undergo surgery but unable to get scheduled for one reason or another with their primary care provider. If you think this may be an option you are interested in, contact our surgery schedulers to discuss this request.
Bracing
Surgical and non-surgical conditions may require you to wear a brace for specific activities or on a more permanent basis following your recovery. Our staff can obtain individualized measurements and perfectly fit you with a specialized brace for your shoulder, elbow, wrist or fingers, and knees or ankles. Our providers will work with you determine what type of brace will work best for you.
